With all the Scream characters in all the different movies throughout the franchise, you have a plethora of choices on who you could dress up as. Truth be told, if I had any of the outfits Rose McGowan wears as Tatum Riley, I would have dressed up as her. Alas, I have an aversion to turtlenecks (more on that later) and unfortunately, got rid of a lot of my 90s specific items in a purge years ago.
Probably for the best that we spotlight Sidney Prescott instead anyway. Both Neve Campbell and Sidney Prescott are undeniably Horror Royalty™️. I’m definitely not the first (and probably won’t be the last) to suggest you grab a few items that you probably already own to dress as Sidney Prescott for your costume party.
For this outfit, I went with a periwinkle v-neck short-sleeved shirt, jean jacket, black skinny jeans, and high heeled black boots. This shirt has no tag, and I got it secondhand from someone I know. The jean jacket is Jessica Simpson and came from a secondhand store. (Side note: I’m not a huge Jessica Simpson fan, but literally everything I’ve ever tried on from her clothing line was basically shaped exactly for my body. Too bad I usually can’t afford to shop at Macy’s.) The Levi Strauss jeans and Freebird Hustle boots both came from a clothing swap. s/o to my clothing swap homies! 😘
Another day, another wig. When I was deciding what wigs to splurge on (and by splurge I mean spending $ on something that isn’t a necessity, not that I paid a lot of money for these individual wigs.) I made a spreadsheet of all the characters I was hoping to pull off and then cross-referenced their hair to see the lowest amount of hair pieces I could buy and still hopefully cover everyone. #NerdAlert As such, you’ll see this beauty again.
For makeup, I put on some black mascara and L’Oreal lipstick in shade 514 Sheer Beachnut. This lipstick might be as old as the original Scream movie that came out in 1996. Have I had this tube the entire time, received it from grandmother, or picked it up from a friend along the way? Your guess is as good as mine.
For my accessory, I put on a skinny strap silver watch that I’ve had for forever. The battery is dead, so it isn’t functioning, but if I hadn’t mentioned it, no one would have noticed in the photos that the time wasn’t right. If I were going out in this outfit, I’d still wear this nonworking watch too.
For my prop, I was really hoping that I had an old cordless phone in an electronics tub in the attic, but alas, I could only find a corded one. This is actually just a “retro” handset with a cord that plugs into a cellphone. It was probably obtained from Forever 21 when my brother worked there, but you can find similar ones at this link. In the first Scream movie, they have cordless phones, corded phones, and something called a “cellular” too. 😜
Catch me back here tomorrow for another “work with what you’ve got!” Halloween costume, cosplay outfit idea.
